    Volunteer Position Details:

    Youth Department

    All volunteers who give their time to Youth Department and its programs are responsible for performing the tasks listed below:

    Title:    Tween’s Program Assistant
      Responsibilities:
    1. Set up and clean up of program space, including set up chairs and tables
    2. Participating in daily activities
    3. Snack distribution
    4. Daily supervision of children
    5. Interact with children, staff and other volunteers
    6. Monitoring children’s behaviour
    7. Setting good examples
    8. Participating in recreation activities

    Title:    Recreation Program Assistant
      Responsibilities:
    1. Set up and clean up of program space
    2. Registration of participants
    3. Score keeping
    4. Coaching as needed
    5. Refereeing as needed
    6. Monitoring hallways
    7. Interact with participants, staff and other volunteers in an appropriate mature manner

    Title:    2010 Malvern Youth Cabinet Volunteer/Participant
    Job description:
    MYC is a youth advocacy group that attempts to discuss and address some of the pressing issues youth in Malvern are faced with. Through the planning of events to hosting of workshops and discussion sessions, it is the hope that the youth of Malvern will become more aware of the social and political issues that plague our community while developing proactive plans to address them. Volunteer hours will be given to members that are actively participating on the cabinet with the opportunity to earn additional hours by being on the Executive. Requirement: Must be 13-24 years of age living, working or attending a school in Malvern.

    Roles and Responsibilities:
    The MYC Executive will be comprised of the following Positions:
      Chair:
    1. The Board Chair will be a duly elected or appointed member of the Malvern Youth Cabinet (MYC) and be appointed as the Chair by the MYC each year.
    2. Serve as the “hub” of governance activity, overseeing all aspects of MYC direction and administration, ensuring that the MYC works as a cohesive team.
    3. Provide overall leadership to enhance the effectiveness of the MYC
    4. Organize, schedule and lead bi-weekly meetings to discuss important agenda items
    5. Ensure that meeting minutes are posted no later than 24 hours after the meeting   (Back to index)
      Vice-Chair:
    1. In the absence of the Chair, be responsible for fulfilling and carrying out all duties of the Chair.
    2. Be responsible for ensuring all members are contacted in advance of meetings and are aware of upcoming events (development of a monthly calendar).   (Back to index)
      Treasurer:
    1. Shall ensure that all approved MYC initiatives are adequately resourced.
    2. Shall research new sources of funding for the MYC including external grants, additional city funds, etc.
    3. Shall account for and maintain an understanding of the internal MYC Budget in collaboration with the MYC Coordinator.
    4. Shall attend grant writing workshops and appropriate training for the MYC.   (Back to index)
      Community Liaison & Outreach (2 positions):
    1. Shall be responsible for the creation and execution of the MYC’s outreach strategy and ensure that any initiatives being led by the executives are in accordance to the short-term and long-term goals outlined in the strategy.
    2. Shall promote the MYC across the Community (i.e. presentations, special events) and be aware of all Community events.
    3. Shall ensure the MYC is represented on any relevant/committees /groups.
    4. Shall attend all MYC Meetings and update the membership in writing on a monthly basis via email.
    5. Develop a master contact list of all organizations, partners and services.  (Back to index)
      Special Events :
    1. Shall establish event-based committees based on MYC endorsed events and encourage membership participation.
    2. Shall ensure and support the committee in establishing a committee leadership and in ensuring the success of the committee throughout.

      Media Relations:
    1. Shall establish and maintain a relationship with media acting as a liaison.
    2. Shall promote the MYC across the community (i.e. presentations, special events).
    3. Coordinate media conferences, including the writing of press releases, logistical support, and contacting media prior to media conferences and events.
    4. Shall attend media relations workshops and appropriate training for the MYC.
    5. Shall be responsible for the development and maintenance of the website, brochure, and any other MYC outreach materials in collaboration with the MYC coordinator.
    6. Shall attend all MYC Meetings and update the membership in writing on a monthly basis via email.  (Back to index)

    Ontario Early Years Centre/Children Department

    All volunteers who give their time to the Ontario Early Years Centre and its programs are responsible for performing the tasks listed below:

    Title:    OEYC program Assistant
      Responsibilities:
    1. Set up and clean up of program space, duties include: organizing craft materials, table cloths on tables, and set up chairs
    2. Sorting of toys in proper bins
    3. Wash toys
    4. Repair any torn books
    5. Snack preparation and distribution
    6. Assist program facilitator with program planning
    7. Interact with parents and children (only if you are comfortable doing so)  (Back to index)

    Title:    OEYC program Assistant - Kindergarten Camp (July / August)

      Responsibilities:
    1. Set up and clean up of program space, duties include: organizing craft materials, table cloths on tables and set up chairs
    2. Sorting of toys

    Middle Years Department

    All volunteers who give their time to Middle Years and Middles Years Department are responsible for performing the tasks listed below:

    5. Supervise and participate in recreation activities
    6. Participate in meetings and planning sessions when required

    Title:    Summer Camp Program Assistant (July/August)
      Responsibilities:

    Women's Place

    The purpose of this position is to assist isolated women by linking them to service agencies in the by providing women with accurate and appropriate referrals as well as short term crisis counselling.

    Title:    Information Counsellor

      Responsibilities:
    1. Represent the community or partner agencies at Women’s Place
    2. Develop a working knowledge of all partner agencies
    3. Provide information about existing social services and assist women in accessing these services
    4. Collect statistics for evaluation purposes
    5. Update and maintain current information and resources on site
    6. Follow up with information calls as needed other duties as assigned
    7. Responsible to the designated staff of Women’s Place (and your sponsoring agency if applicable)
    8. All volunteers are required to commit 3 to 8 hours of time per week to Women’s Place. Shifts will begin after successful completion of training  (Back to index)

    Seniors Department

    All volunteers who give their time to Malvern Family Resource Centre and the senior’s department are responsible for performing the tasks listed below:

    Title:    Seniors’ Program Assistant
      Responsibilities:
    1. Set up and clean up of program space, including set up chairs and tables
    2. Snack preparation and distribution
    3. Assist program facilitator with program planning
    4. Kitchen clean up
    5. Various duties may be requested by program facilitators that are not on the list
    6. Please note that staff members will not ask you to do anything that they would not do themselves  (Back to index)
    Title:    Computer Class Volunteer  
    One day commitment per week to facilitate a class of up to 10 seniors.
    Teach the following:
    1. Basic Internet Skills
    2. Opening and using an email account
    3. Social Networking Sites such as Facebook etc.
      Commitment:
    1. One day per week (Thursday)
    2. Approximately 10:00am – 11:00am
    3. 12 weeks (March-May)

    4. Requirement:
      Interest in, and/or experience teaching computer skills at a beginner level, and interest in, and/or experience working with seniors.  (Back to index)
    Title:    Craft Class Volunteer  
    The Seniors Program is looking for people to lead a weekly craft group for a 6 week rotation.
    The leader will be responsible for planning the theme, the craft activities, providing a list
    of supplies and facilitating the weekly group for 15-25 Seniors.
      Commitment:
    1. One day per week (Monday)
    2. Approximately 10:00am – 12:00pm
    3. 6 weeks (Mid-March-May)

    4. Requirement:
      Interest in, and/or experience teaching computer skills at a beginner level, and interest in, and/or experience working with seniors.  (Back to index)
    Title:    Yoga Class Volunteer  
    The Seniors Program is looking for people to assist the facilitator in a weekly Yoga class.
    The volunteer will be responsible for assisting in set-up and cleanup of the program and serving tea.
    The volunteer must be able to lift and move tables and chairs.
      Commitment:
    1. One day per week (Wednesday)
    2. Approximately 9:30am – 11:30am
    3. Ongoing for 8 weeks

    4. Requirement:
      Interest in, and/or experience working with seniors.  (Back to index)
    Title:    After School Snack Assistant  
    We need volunteers for a 12-week period to help organize and run various parts of the
    After School Snack Program. This will involve a one day commitment per week and includes:
      Responsibilities:
    1. Planning and buying food......9:30-10:30 and/or
    2. Preparing food.....................10:30-1:30 and/or
    3. Clean-up..............................12:00-1:00 and/or
    4. Delivery*................................1:00-3:00
    5. * These volunteers would require a valid Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
      Commitment:
    1. One day per week (Monday and/or Wednesday)
    2. Approximately 2 to 6 hours per week
    3. 12 weeks (February-April) as a pilot with opportunity to extend.

    4. Requirement:
      1. valid food handling certificate or willingness to obtain
      2. interest in, and/or experience working with seniors, (this program may be integrated with a seniors program)
      3. interest and/or experience in food preparation (e.g., lunch programs)
      4. volunteers must attend one orientation session, training will be provided.
