Part-time After-school Program Assistant
Responsibilities
Program Delivery
1. Develop and implement an after school program that offers physical activities, homework support, healthy eating and nutrition education, wellness and personal health education and other activities that meet the needs of children in grades 1 to 8.
2. Work with the team of staff and volunteers offering programs to ensure program plan is in place and programs are running as planned.
3. Recruit and register participants for the program.
4. Facilitate leadership development and discussion groups (grades 7 & 8) during these programs.
5. Work with partner agencies to offer activities to enhance the program.
6. Ensure that space used is clean and tidy after each program.
Administration
- Keep daily statistics on program attendance.
- Provide written report as required.
- Consult with Afterschool Program Facilitator with any recommendations for new programs or improving existing programs.
- Attend meetings or training when requested.
Skills, Education, Experience and other Requirements
- Experience working with children in grades 1 to 8 students and parents.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
- Experience with conflict resolution, problem-solving.
- Experience or education in social service or community development particularly recreational, tutoring or nutrition education experience is an asset.
- Police Reference Check will be done upon job acceptance.
Salary, Location & Hours of Work
- $ 10.25 per hour
- 10 hours per week afterschool (Must be available Monday to Friday, 3:30pm to 5:30pm for program)
- Contract from September 2011 to June 2012
- At selected schools in Malvern
