Part-time After-school Program Facilitator

Responsibilities

Program Delivery

1.       Develop and implement an after school program that offers physical activities, homework support, healthy eating and nutrition education, wellness and personal health education and other activities that meet the needs of children in grades 1 to 8.

2.       Lead the team of staff and volunteers offering programs to ensure program plan is in place and programs are running as planned.

3.       Recruit and register participants for the program.

4.       Work with school community (i.e. teachers, administrators, caretakers) and parents to meet the goals of the program.

5.       Facilitate leadership development and discussion groups (grades 7 & 8) during these programs.

6.       Work with partner agencies to offer activities to enhance the program

7.       Resolve any issues with afterschool staff, volunteers, participants, parents and school staff.

8.       Ensure that space used is clean and tidy after each program.

 

Administration

  1. Keep daily statistics on program attendance.
  2. Provide written report as required.
  3. Purchase supplies and equipments for the program with approval from the Manager.
  4. Consult with Manager with any recommendations for new programs or improving existing programs
  5. Coordinating schedules, ensuring back-up/coverage, etc.
  6. Attend meetings.

 

Skills, Education, Experience and other Requirements

  1. Experience or education (or combination) in social service, education or community development particularly recreational, tutoring or nutrition education experience.
  2. Experience in supervising staff and volunteers.
  3. Experience working with grades 1 to 8 students and parents.
  4. Standard First Aid and CPR required.
  5. Police Reference Check will be done upon job acceptance.
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
  8. Experience with conflict resolution, problem-solving

 

Salary, Location & Hours of Work

  1. $ 13.00 per hour
  2. 12.5 hours per week afterschool (Must be available Monday to Friday, 3:30pm to 5:30pm for program)
  3. Contract from September 2011 to June 2012
  4. At selected schools in Malvern
