Malvern Celebrates Black History Month
Toronto , ON [Thursday, February 23, 2006] - Malvern Family Resource Centre, in partnership with Malvern Recreation Centre will be hosting a Black History month celebration for the Malvern Community. The event will showcase local singers, dancers, artist, poets and motivational speakers.
“This event has not only the ability to educate youth on the accomplishments of African descendents in North America, but brings all community together, regardless of ethnic origin, to celebrate one of Toronto 's many wonderful cultures” commented Deneka Green, youth worker at the Malvern Family Resource Centre. “You really generate a great sense of pride within the youth when they learn about the contributions, successes and challenges of their ancestors”
The event will kick start wit h a performance by tr aditional Caribbean dancers and will follow with Robert Small, a celebrated Toronto artist, who will speak to participants about his art and the many men and women whose successes and contributions are highlighted in his popular Black History Month posters. The event will start at 3:45 PM and is scheduled to end at 9:30 PM. The event will take place at the Malvern Recreation Centre, which is located at 30 Sewells Road .
Malvern Family Resource Centre is a non-profit community based agency that serves the riding of Scarborough Rouge River . The Centre has served the community for over twenty-two-three and offers a variety of programs and services for residents of all ages.
