Toronto , ON Media Release Malvern Youth Celebrate Their Own! Toronto, ON [Saturday, June 3, 2006] – Over the last few months, participants and staff at Malvern Family Resource Centre have been preparing for their annual youth forum, aimed to engage, entertain and celebrate Malvern youth. “Powered by Malvern: Involved to Resolve” will feature an award ceremony with recipients such as; Dr. Marion Hilliard Sr PS Hockey Team, Mother Teresa's OFSAA basketball champions, and this years TD Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership recipient from West Hill C.I. Laxmi Parthasarathy. The event is scheduled to start at 10 AM and scheduled to finish at 4 PM. For several years, Malvern youth in the community have worked together to highlight the positive contributions young people make in their community. “Acknowledging the hard work and dedication young people make in our community is all part of building a stronger neighborhood. We hope that these award recipients will serve as role models for their peers to continue making positive contributions to their community” said Girmalla Persaud, Executive Director of the Centre. The event will also feature local talent with and be will be hosted by Flow 93.5's radio personality Jemeni. Additional items on the agenda include keynote speaker Dwane Morgan, a basketball dunk-off and a “Power to Choose Assembly” which combines entertainment and interaction with motivational messages designed for youth. For more than twenty years, Malvern Family Resource Centre has been providing program and services to residents of Malvern and is committed to meeting the diverse and changing needs of our community. MFRC is made up of 5 centres, they include; the Youth Centre, Seniors Centre, Women's Place, Ontario Early Years and our Family Centre. We provide many services, such as an income tax clinic, lawyer services, and parent relief. Our departments offer an array of programs to support children, youth, adults and seniors.
