History
Malvern Family Resource Centre is located in the heart of Malvern, across from the Malvern Town Centre. For 25 years, our agency has been serving families in Scarborough Rouge River by providing programs and services for the community. Our centre is made up of five departments; Seniors, Youth, Early Years, Women’s Place and the Family Centre. We play an important role by providing volunteer opportunities to community of all ages seeking to gain experience. We also welcome ideas for new programs and services. Kids Have Stress, Too!
A series of workshops to help parents learn techniques on how to identify and help their child manage stress. Childcare is available
Lets Discuss It!
An informal discussion group for women. The group meets weekly and offers the opportunity to make new friends, take a break from your routine, learn new skills, reduce stress, listen to guest speakers, etc.
Nobody's Perfect Parenting (Partnership with Public Health)
A parenting program for parents with children birth to five years. Informal discussions on understanding your child, how to help your child behave, how to keep your child safe, happy and healthy. This program is free. Childcare and snacks are provided. Facilitated by Toronto Public Health Department
YWCA Teen Mothers' Program
In a relaxed and comfortable setting, young mothers will learn how to parent their children, receive support and discuss their opportunities for the future. A nutritious meal is provided. Young mothers between the ages of 14-22 years are eligible to attend this program. This program is facilitated by the staff of the YWCA. Free childcare and T.T.C. tickets are available. Parent Relief
This service provides parents with up to three hours of childcare during the day. The service is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from. 1-4 p.m..
Incredible Years Program
The Incredible Years Program is a research based effective 12 week program for parents of children 2-6 years of age who experience behaviour problems. Topics covered are: interactive play, praise, limit setting, problem solving, helping children learn, effective communication skills and nonphysical discipline alternatives. The program is facilitated in partnership with Toronto Public Health.
Services
Youth and Family Counselling Program
Counselling can support you in dealing with issues that you may feel are beyond your control. It can help you learn new coping skills, better understand yourself and improve your relationships.
Legal Clinic
Residents who require legal advice on various issues may book a private and confidential appointment with a lawyer. Appointments are approximately thirty minutes.
Income Tax Clinic
Each year, our Centre offers qualified applicants free income tax services. This services is offered though a partnership with the Canadian Institute of Accountants.
