Welcome to the Seniors Department

History

Since its inception in 2001, the Seniors Centre has grown to be a haven for seniors from many diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. With an increase in attendance, the Seniors Centre has been able to expand into new areas and promote the ongoing involvement of seniors, through many innovative activities.

We have continued to provide the Drop-in Seniors program, the Art and Craft program, the conversational English classes, Information sessions, Recreational activities, summer picnics, trips, movie presentations and fundraising events. Our aim is to promote activities that would encourage the seniors to contribute their skills, experience and wisdom to support the social well-being in the community. Through all these activities, the seniors have been able to reduce their isolation, develop positive adaptation to transitions in their lives as they age, build their self-esteem, improve their fine motor skills, maintain their well-being and develop supportive relationships among their peers.

More recently, our priority has been aimed at helping vulnerable seniors from Malvern, who are experiencing other social problems such as Elder Abuse. Through the “Train the Trainer” module, education, prevention and support are being provided by trained seniors, who disseminate information to other seniors.

We are extremely happy that the Centre is able to achieve its goal of building the capacity of seniors in the community.

To get involved or to find out more about the programs we offer, we invite you to come by and visit our centre located at 1321 Neilson Road for more information, or call 416-281-1376.
