I have been involving with gardenning and farming with MFRC for last 8 years. I joined with Ken at MFRC Neilson garden to help him then moved to the Morningside Heights farm when I got the opportunity. I will grow tomatoes, chilis, beans, karela, squash, eggplants for us and sale.

Well I’m Branden I’ve been a farmer in the past but let it go due to life matters that came up but I’m back as ready as I’ll ever be. I’m a coordinator of a community garden and plan on launching a tea business this year. I’m planning on growing a wide range of plants from survival foods to herbs and flowers as well as berry bushes.

I am Funmi, a passionate home cook and immigrant farmer who enjoys growing fresh food for my family and community. I started Funmi Farms to grow fresh, healthy vegetables that are commonly used in everyday cooking. I will be growing crops like tomatoes, peppers, spinach, okra, Corn and herbs because they are nutritious and widely used in African and international dishes. I enjoy farming because it helps me provide fresh food and connect with nature.

Afro-Ojibwe teaching farm. (Where how you grow matters) We specialise in growing crops that are unique to North and South America such as squashes, ancient watermelons, corn, collard greens, okra, strawberries, blueberries, squashes. We grow these to help keep them in our diets and in society. Our farm also teaches others how to garden while caring for the earth.

This is the 5th year that I have been farming with my family. I enjoy the experience from start to finish. I get to meet new people, and help them eat healthier. I enjoy being outdoors and watching items grow from seed to something people can eat and enjoy. I also get to make some extra money to purchase things that I like and need. I will be growing garlic, different kinds of callaloo, carrots, beets and potatoes just to name a few.

We are a family run team (mom, daughter, and other family supports). Rani grew up in Sri Lanka where she farmed a variety of crops in her backyard. After immigrating to Canada, she continued the tradition on a much smaller level at home. The MFRC Urban Farm gave her a new way to reconnect to her roots, continue traditions, and learn new skills with her fellow farmers.

Now, I have teenagers of my own helping me farm, and they're both very enthusiastic about lending a hand!
